Welcome, Blogroll 2011!

This week, my new batch of students entered the world of blogging. Their links can be found to the right on my blogroll. Their pages reflect their personalities, and so do their writing styles. They will be blogging once a week about the books they are reading in our balanced literacy program (for 30 minutes each day). Some weeks, they’ll choose the topic; some weeks I will. These blogs will be part of our conversations about reading and writing, and will enhance our teacher/student conferences. I’ll try to comment on the blogs every week. (Week One–Check.)

BUT I’M ASKING FOR YOUR HELP. If you read this, take a moment to enter into a blog conversation (or 4 or 5 or more) with a student. Research shows (and I can make it available if you’d like) that the larger this conversation circle is, the better it works. And let’s face it, if you know someone’s talking WITH you, the conversation’s much more interesting.

The students have left the blogs public for that very reason. There are 33 students. Right now, 26 have started blogs. Show them their words matter; show them they matter; show them we are listening.
